Special Delivery - The Final Chapter
The curtains closed on a six-year tradition of premium partying when High Society Entertainment retired their Special Delivery series with ‘The Final Chapter’, held at the A.I.S.K on December 25, 2007. Just as it began – as an invite-only soiree – so it ended, “partying with good friends, Jamaica’s elite personalities, business leaders, and the true supporters of Special Delivery” , as explained by High Society member Leighton Davis.

The holiday seasons (Summer and Christmas) may never be the same for the thousands who have come to anticipate the ‘Special’ innovations of the High Society team. ‘B Fashionable’, ‘Wild Wild West’, ‘Le Grand Costume Ball’ and ‘Flight 2505’ are some of the exciting themes which stir up fond memories of luxurious revellry amongst the ‘who’s who’ of Jamaica’s social elite, everyone attired in their most impressive get-ups channeling the fashion of the times. The exit of Special Delivery will leave a gaping hole in the party calender, which no one wants to see, but as Davis explains, ”…when you’re on top of your game there is nothing else to prove. We will retire the brand Special Delivery while we are still on top of the field.”

The legacy

Special Delivery will always be remembered as just that…special. “The name brings a sense of excitement and high expectation as we have raised the banner of partying in Jamaica, especially in themed event. Special delivery will leave behind innovation and creativity that is years in advance of the market”, says Davis.

Still, the High Society team have not retired from their roles as ambassadors of the premium experience, and will maintain a presence on the local and international entertainment scene in other capacities. This provides some comfort that the calibre of events pioneered by High Society will live on. The money question, however, is “will Special Delivery enjoy a comback in the future?” “Who knows what the future holds”, says Davis, “but for the immediate future no”.
