 Kelly Rowland - R&B/Pop superstar and member of multi-platinum selling group Destiny's Child R&B/pop music superstar Kelly Rowland,
solo artiste and member of the multi platinum selling mega-group Destiny’s
Child, will perform live at the region’s largest fashion extravaganza,
Caribbean Fashionweek (CFW), to be held June 10-15 this year. The Grammy
winning songbird was confirmed this week by Pulse, producers and organizers
of CFW, as special celebrity guest and headline performer for the event.
Rowland who is a founding member of
Destiny's Child, one the world's iconic all female super groups, is
also a successful solo artiste selling more than four million albums
worldwide. Her seductive collaboration with St. Louis rapper Nelly
on the global hit “Dilemma” from her debut album ‘Simply
Deep’ earned her, her first solo Grammy and the distinction
of becoming the first member of the girl group to have achieved a US
number-one single. Her follow up album, ‘Miss Kelly’ spawned
the international number-one single “Work”
which also resulted in a slew of top awards across the US, UK, Asia
and Holland.
In addition to her remarkable music
career, Kelly has also made strides in acting, appearing in films and
television productions including a starring role in the 2003 horror
flick, ‘Freddy vs. Jason’, the 2004 romantic comedy ‘The
Seat Filler’ (executively produced by Hollywood’s most bankable
star, Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith,) as well as several
guest appearances on television series such as The Hughleys,
American Dreams, Girlfriends and Eve.
The singer is also set to make waves in reality television as she gets
set to host a new series on the cable network Bravo called ‘The
Fashion Show’ alongside acclaimed fashion designer Isaac
Mizrahi.
Ms Kelly’s sultry voice, natural
charm, charisma and smooth melodies will undoubtedly appeal to the CFW
crowd who will also appreciate her good style sensibility. A noted red
carpet star, Kelly’s eclectic wardrobe has included pieces from the
Caribbean’s own and CFW fave, Jamaican U.K based designer Gavin Douglas.
She is excited to perform at the region’s biggest fashion event and
promises an intense musical set, to include older, as well as new material
from her upcoming yet to be titled third solo album.
Now in its 9th year, CFW
2009 will feature the Caribbean’s best designers as well as an elite
set of international CFW faves, including Gavin Douglas from London,
Catalin Bothezatu from Romania, along with Jamaica’s urban maestro,
Biggy, Sandra Kennedy and Trinidad’s grande dame of ultra minimalist
sophisticated chic, Meiling. Other standouts will include Jamaicans
Mutamba, Barry Moncrieffe and Joy Bryce (based in Atlanta).
CFW 2009 takes place this June 10-15
at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston Jamaica. In 2008, the
event was attended by Hollywood A-list stars Nia Long, Actress Vanessa
Williams, R&B Singer Mashonda as well as powerhouse rapper and fashion
designer Eve. The event has been covered by the world press including
Elle, Fashion TV Paris, BET, i-D, Vogue, The independent, the BBC, Marie
Claire, the New York Times and the Associated Press, among others.
CFW is presented by Pulse in association
